THE SOURCE OF JOY
Objectives
To teach our selves where do we get our Joy
The Holy Spirit of God is the source of the true and lasting Joy. In Addition to one’s initial reception of the spirit, there are several spiritual disciplines that facilitate God’s spiritual work with in our lives. Cultivating our Joy as believers.
Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit? (NIV)
Romans 14:17
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, (NIV)
As a person may experience certain levels of happiness and contentment apart from the spirit, but no measure of pleasure and enjoyment compares to the satisfaction one experiences by receiving the Holy Spirit. Isaiah prophesied of the Joy that would accompany redemption: Isaiah 12:3
With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.(NIV)
Jesus also utilized the analogy of flowing water to symbolize the flow of the Holy Ghost. John 7:38
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him."(NIV) John 7:39
By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.(NIV). The flow of the Holy Spirit in a person’s life is the ultimate source of great joy and refreshment
Acts 13:52
And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. (NIV)
Jesus’ disciples experienced this association of joy and Holy Ghost. Joy always accompanies the spirit because the lord is the source of true joy. When we observe some receiving the spirit, it is clearly displayed on that person’s face and in body language. Abroad smile is absolutely predictable! Any spirit filled believer probably smiles just remembering that moment of receiving the Holy Ghost. Because the Holy Spirit is the source of joy is a fruit of the spirit
